Magic Potion Craft
Contributed by Kailey

This potion craft is truly magical! It is a fun science experiment because it uses oil and water to give the "potion" a mind of its own. It is also a great way for kids to let their creativity shine; they can use different coloured food colouring and even glitter to make their magic potion special and unique! This craft is great to suit an Aladdin or magic theme.
THIS POTION IS FOR WATCHING AND PLAYING WITH ONLY! PLEASE, DO NOT DRINK!
Materials:
- water bottle,
- around 2/3 cup of olive oil,
- food coloring,
- glitter, jewels, beads, etc.,
- a funnel,
- OPTIONAL: decorative glass bottle
Instructions:
Pour out some water from your water bottle (leave just over half of the water in). Pour your oil into the water bottle.
Add food colouring, and use your funnel to add jewels, glitter, or beads to the water bottle.
Put the lid onto the bottle and shake it up. Watch the magic happen!
- THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT!
The oil separates from the water since the water particles are attracted to each other (oil particles are attracted to oil particles as well). Oil is also less dense than water, which makes it float on top of the water layer over time.
- THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT!
You can also choose to pour your potion into a decorative bottle and give it a label!
